Clayton McCord Byars
Born & Raised:
Born in Ducktown, TN; mostly raised in Thomasville, GA
Artistic Background & Education:
My mothers side of the family painted and drew a lot. My mom paints and my great uncle was a very good painter, teacher and traveler. In 1969 he was appointed to be head of the art department at Valdosta State College, now VSU. Dad was a mining engineer and draftsman. So this is where I feel like I gained lots of early influence. As a teenager I drew and painted, then went to college for Painting and Drawing at LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA. I studied art history, art education, drawing, photography, painting and dimensional art.
Favorite thing about the Artist Collective Thomasville:
The community of creative people.
Why is it important for you to share our history through Project 185:
I enjoy painting as well as learning about connection to the past and present.
